In sharing it, Kade reminds us that we are all broken in our own way, and that wounds, public and private, take time, patience and love to heal. Chase’s past, benign in comparison to Amanda’s, nonetheless holds powerful sway over his present. Kade beautifully pivots the story away from Amanda’s past and focuses instead on the courage and strength she’s found in her new life. Chase’s apology turns into a lovely unexpected romance. The plan goes awry when Amanda has a flashback and flees. Meanwhile, Chase’s career is on the downswing, so much so that he’s talked into a misguided publicity stunt - surprising Amanda (who’d mentioned her fascination with him at a post-escape interview) at her workplace. Readers first see her curled up on the floor of her bedroom closet, working up the courage to go to her job at a supermarket. Four years later, Amanda is returned to her childhood home, suffering from PTSD. Amanda Grace was abducted at the age of 15, chained in a dingy basement for 738 days - her only companion a poster of teen heartthrob Chase Henry (think Leonardo DiCaprio circa “Titanic”). In 738 Days (Forge, $27.99), Stacey Kade turns a tale of trauma into a tale of love. However, her memory and adoration of him is quickly ruined when she learns that he wasn't the noble man that she once thought. When Alexandra thinks that Jordan is dead she devotes her life to honoring him. Both of them learn a lot from each other, and while Alexandra merely learns the artificial and superficial laws of society, Jordan learns truth, honesty and sincere love. The story is about how they deal with their forced marriage and how they learn to love each other along the way. The two meet in an unexpected attack by two bandits, and when Jordan jeopardizes Alexandra's reputation in her village, he is coaxed into marrying her. Something Wonderful is a romantic love story about Alexandra, a young girl living in the country, who takes care of her mother and elderly servants and was taught that everyone is inherently good, and Jordan, a jaded Duke who believes all women are evil opportunists that just want to get the best of him. But while I still enjoy his work, there is a certain something missing in everything he's written since he got sober. I'm glad he cleaned up, because he probably wouldn't still be alive to write more books. The scariest books Stephen King ever wrote were under the influence of copious amounts of cocaine and hard liquor. The tenacity of love, the perils of creativity, the mysteries of memory, and the nature of the supernatural: Stephen King gives us a novel as fascinating as it is gripping and terrifying. When Elizabeth's past unfolds and the ghosts of her childhood begin to appear, the damage of which they are capable is truly devastating. Once he meets Elizabeth Eastlake, a sick old woman with roots tangled deep in Duma Key, Edgar begins to paint, sometimes feverishly many of his paintings have a power that cannot be controlled. A terrible accident takes Edgar Freemantle's right arm and scrambles his memory and his mind, leaving him with little but rage as he begins the ordeal of rehabilitation. Unlike Amy I had an obstetrician who I could bully into telling me everything I needed to know. I too got married fairly young and then immediately moved to Darwin far away from friends and relations I related to actual life in Darwin and then falling pregnant and having NO idea what is expected of you, or what is going to happen. I really don’t know where to start when it comes to saying how much I loved and related to PEACE, LOVE AND KHAKI SOCKS. Sometimes horrifying, sometimes hilarious and always honest, this unforgettable story is one woman’s struggle to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. Peace, Love and Khaki Socks explores what it is to be a woman, an expectant mother, a lover and a friend in a patriarchy. After all, it worked for the cavewomen, right? But as a tropical cyclone threatens to whip down the main street, Amy finds herself facing more than biology. Struggling to come to terms with her rampant fertility, disillusioned with a haughty obstetrician, and infuriated by an inordinate amount of peeing, Amy finds solace in a decision to homebirth. One sultry October morning in Darwin, hemp-wearing army wife Amy Silva grips a trembling fist around two pink lines on a plastic stick. "And I had, at one point in my life, grown so tired of novels which were clearly written with a view to selling the film rights, that I kind of judged my own writing by its unadaptability," he says. Haddon told a videographer for London's National Theatre, where the play premiered, that he couldn't imagine his book ever being adapted for the stage or screen. The book is told entirely from the perspective of a brilliant 15-year-old boy who happens to be autistic, and a stage adaptation, which has been an award-winning hit in London, just opened on Broadway to rave reviews. Alex Sharp stars as 15-year-old Christopher in the theater adaptation of Mark Haddon's 2003 novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.īritish novelist Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time became an international best-seller after it was published in England in 2003. Touching, riotously funny, and absolutely stunning. Chokshi’s novel is pitch perfect: The plot is action-packed, the dialogue witty, and the characters (almost all of whom are either Indian or part-Indian) are compelling, diverse, and complex. Much like its predecessors, this fast-moving adventure draws on Hindu cosmology and South Asian pop-culture references to create an enchanting but believable magical Otherworld, where gods, demigods, demons, and talking animals abound. Despite their best efforts, however, one of the Sleeper’s soldiers overhears the prophecy, and Aru, Mini, Brynne, and Adin-accompanied by Rudy, a serpent prince-set off to find the missing Kalpavriksha, a wish-granting tree, so that they might wish upon it to set things right. This mission is of utmost importance because Sheela is a clairvoyant with an important prophecy, which speaks of the rise of the Sleeper and an untrue Pandava sister-and which the Sleeper must not hear at any cost. The two people are 10-year-old identical twins and Pandavas Nikita and Sheela, trapped atop a Ferris wheel in downtown Atlanta. The novel opens with Aru and her friends on a mission to rescue two people from the Sleeper’s soldiers. In the third instalment of the Pandava Quartet, 14-year-old Arundhati “Aru” Shah and her companions need to defeat their archnemesis (and Aru’s father), the Sleeper, and prevent the impending war between the devas and asuras.
